Too many of us have a disconnect between the theology in our head and the love in our heart. That’s why we should earnestly pray for the release of divine power that will move us beyond an experience of intellectual Christianity to an actual experience of Jesus in our hearts—to a deep knowledge of Christ’s love for us, and in response, our passionate love for Christ. And we need to pray that because it doesn’t take a greater human effort to achieve it, it requires a supernatural connection between our head and heart to grasp just how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.
“ I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! God, as Teresa of Avila honestly prayed, so I pray, “Oh God, I don’t love you, I don’t even want to love you, but I want to want to love you.” Create in my heart a burning desire to love you more than life itself. And lead me to an experience of divine love that surpasses knowledge and fills me with your fullness. And Lord, do it today.
